Social Networks and Social Support on adults with total and partial eyesight

Abstract

In the last decades, one of the issues that has attracted researchers is that of the social networks and the support they provide. In the present study we examine the size of personal networks, the impact of the individual features in the size of personal networks and the quality of the received social support of six adults with total and partial loss of eyesight. The method we follow is that of a semi-structured interview and the results reveal the small size of social networks of people with total and partial loss of eyesight, the influence of the variables age and employment and the satisfaction of the provided support. As in Greece, the research on social networks of people with total and partial loss of eyesight is nonexistent, the contribution of this research is important for understanding the value of the size of social networks and the provided support, as they can contribute to the well-being of people with total and partial loss of eyesight.
