Abstract
The main purpose of the study is to identify which strategies were used by 125 students of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, who attended classes in order to learn German as a foreign language (German for academic purposes vs. classes in order to gain a level from A2 to B2). An adaptation of the well known SILL of Oxford was implemented. Of specific interest was the influence of several factors, like the objective of their studies, the year of study and the objectives of the specific class. There was evidence that indeed the implementation of several strategies depended on some of these variables.
