Abstract
The recent abolition of social science courses and their replacement by more “traditional” courses, raises the question of the procedures with which young people are prepared for later adulthood. The above issue in combination with the existing abstention from the elections and the general political apathy raises reasonable questions in relation to the existing educational policy. In the present research, a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods is carried out for the study of the views of pupils and students on the above topic. A total of 494 third grade high school students and 10 students of the Department of Political Science participated. The final conclusions include the fact of the direct connection of the course of Civic Education and the active political participation but also the need to revise the curriculum in relation to this course.
