Abstract
The present research aims at improving the effectiveness of further education programs for teachers with variable educational backgrounds who operate within the same educational frame. This research focused on an introductory exploration of the educational needs of the group of teachers as a “case study” at the Model Manufactural Unit of Lakkia, Thessaloniki, in relation with the developmental perspectives of distance learning.
The specific needs of this study led to the application of a qualitative research methodology, while the collection of data followed the model of “semi-structured” and “standardized openended” interviews.
Analysis of data yielded that the intentions and attitudes of teachers at the Model Manufactural Unit of Lakkia are positive towards programs of further education regardless of their educational background. Moreover, a positive intention is noted in almost all teachers for attendance in distance learning programs, a fact that also seems to be true regardless of their educational background. However, teachers’ positive attitude was not confirmed from the data. Choosing between the implementation of graded educational programs aimed at teachers from specific educational backgrounds and educational programs aimed at teachers of mixed educational backgrounds is a subtle task that requires further research. The main factors which will contribute to a successful implementation of distance learning for the case of the Model Manufactural Unit of Lakkia are the preliminary debriefing meeting as well as the exemption of teachers from the costs of such a program.
