A Guide to Project Work According to the Curricula for German as a Foreign Language for Greek State Primary and Secondary Schools

Abstract

The Curricula for teaching German as a Foreign Language in Greek state primary and secondary schools, which was introduced by the Pedagogical Institute in 2003 as part of the Interdisciplinary Common Curricula Framework, form the basic guide for both the content and the teaching proceedings of this language in the state pre-tertiary education. The modernizing element which was introduced through these curricula is the introduction of Group-Work-Projects as a structural part lesson, also including a transcurricular approach to the foreign language class. This article describes the guidelines and provisions indicated in the curricula for German as a foreign language in state owned primary and secondary schools and describes and comments on the legal framework and the implementation proposals included in these texts. It also functions as a simplified focalization of the theoretical foundation as well as an implementation guide of the two interdisciplinary curricula for German as a foreign language. Under this scope this article offers suggestions for pre-tertiary educators of the state sector in order for them to use the proposed didactic interventions for those schools, where the New Common Framework for Foreign Languages has not been introduced yet.
