Abstract
This paper presents proposals of formal, non-formal and informal school literacy practices aiming at connecting schools with the local community and government. The proposals describe initiatives of school spaces used to benefit local communities and activities related to further education, sports, theater, art, educational festivals and other events for citizens that emphasize the role of school as an educational, cultural and creative communication center. At the same time, suggestions are being made about ways of cooperation between schools and local government infrastructure to deal with financial and social exclusion problems of vulnerable groups of people. The paper also shows specific examples of activities that work efficiently based on carefully planned and goal-oriented projects to promote the schools’ role as part of the social environment.
