School and parents relations: Cooperation and conflict

Abstract

 

According to the international literature, parental involvement is one of the components of school effectiveness, which in turn leads to improved quality of education in educational units. The participatory, admirable, problematic or conflictual parental involvement depends on from the shape of educational policy of units. In this paper we discuss the legal rights of the Parent-Teacher Association and their profile. We explain the terms “parental involvement” and “parental participation”. Also, we propose radical actions to strengthening the limited parental involvement. Finally, we quote the main causes of schoolparent conflicts and propose practices of avoid and or prevention, and their management methods.
