Abstract
The smooth reception and absorption of newly appointed educator is very important, since he is in the first stages of his career and he definitely needs encouragement and appropriate guidance. Μentor is a person who can contribute greatly to the support and guidance of newly appointed educator. The aim of this research was to explore the opinions of educators working in Primary Education of the Prefecture of Evia, in regard to the importance and the role which Mentor plays in the smooth reception and absorption of newly appointed educators in the school environment. For the efficient conduct of research, a qualitative study was conducted so as the opinions and beliefs of the responders on the research questions to be revealed and examined. The sample constituted of five educators working in Primary Education of the Prefecture of Evia. The study was carried out through a structured interview designed in order to fulfill the aim of the research. The findings revealed that educators are very positive in favor of the role of Mentor as a guide of newly appointed educators. It is strongly believed that the supportive role of a Mentor contributes to the smooth absorption of educators in the school environment. In addition, Mentor helps educators to face different problems emerged during the educational process as well as guides them while teaching and educating.
