Abstract
This paper attempts to describe the extent of use of Foreign Language Learning Strategies by students learning German as a Foreign Language in the fifth and sixth grade of several primary schools. The aim of the study is to have an insight of which strategies are used by primary school students during their learning process. The findings could be also useful to establish a grounded theory of the strategy use at primary schools. In order to achieve this Oxford’s Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) was implemented. Of special interest was the impact related to the class and the gender of the participating students. The data were processed with the SPSS 21 software and revealed that seven strategies are preferred by the female students. Five strategies are more often used by students of the fifth grade and one strategy by the students of the sixth grade.
