An Investigation of the Training Needs of Early Childhood Professionals. A case study of Kalamata’s Municipal Day Care Centers

Abstract

This article concerns the investigation of the training needs of the early childhood educatorsof the Municipal Day Care Centers. It is a case study of the educational needs of thirteen (13) Educators of all specialties (Kindergarten Teachers, Early Years Teachers and teacherʼs Assistants) who work in the Municipal Day Care Centers of Kalamata. The semi-structured interview was used as a research tool to investigate the needs and the thematic content analysis was used to analyze the data. From the results it emerged that the educational needs of the pedagogues arise from deficiencies in their basic education, are influenced by the age and the special characteristics of the children in their classroom and differ significantly depending on the specialty of the pedagogues.
