Collaboration of general and special education teachers in general primary education in Greece

Abstract

This research examines to what extent and on what aspects of teaching general education teachers are familiar with developing co-operation with special education educational staff in general primary educationin Greece. It is an overview survey at national level. It appears that Parallel Support Teachers, under 30 years of age, those with less than 10 years’ experience and those working in multi-school schools face the most difficulties in their effort to work effectively with the co-teacher. Teachers also assess the lack of cooperative culture, the lack of in-service training, the unclear institutional framework, and the educational system’s shortcomings in their work. It is expected that research will help to highlight the training needs of teachers.
