Abstract
This article attempts to convey the views of the Greek philosopher Plato on Education, as described in the masterpiece books of his heyday: the “Republic” and the “Laws”, as well as to highlight the value of his pedagogical principles. Plato`s vision is to shape through education the ideal man, who aims to reach the highest levels of excellence, so as to acquire the knowledge of the absolute truth which derives from divine insight. Education is considered to be the basis for achieving the “ideal” state organization, as it cultivates morally sound, responsible and conscious characters with a rich intellectual background, who in return apply their skills to serve the common good, in order to ensure the social justice and consequently the social prosperity & happiness for all citizens.
