Schools and Businesses: Is there a match?

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to study the basic elements of Management Theory and to try to find possibilities of correlation of these elements with the functions and organization of a school unit. To achieve this goal, we will start with the definition of the concept of Organiza-tion and we will move on to the concepts of inputs and outputs. Two theories of Management and the possibilities they could offer to the administration of a school will be described. Next we will compare the factors that affect the two Organizations (financial and school) and their individual functions (Planning, Organization, Management, Control). We will deal more ex-tensively with the most basic of these functions, Planning, and in the end we will develop the concerns about the need to train future school executives on the theories of Organization & Management.
