The contribution of educational specialties to the organizational culture through decision making

Abstract

The culture of educational organizations is influenced by different factors while the members of the teachers’ association contribute significantly to its formation. Primary school units are staffed by general education and specialty teachers, most of whom serve in more than one educational organization to complete their hours. The present research studies the contribution of the educational specialties of the Prefecture of Ilia to the organizational culture through the degree of their participation in the decision making of the school unit they serve. With a qualitative method and conducting interviews with 31 specialty teachers and general education teachers of six schools, their views on the subject are researched. The results come from thematic analysis and show minimal participation of educational specialties in decision making and dissenting views of participants. The difficulty of developing a strong organizational culture common to all members is inferred when there is a presence of teachers shared in more than one school.
