Abstract
The operating framework of the Second Chance Schools in Greece, in complete alignment with the principles of Adult Education, is based on empirical teaching approaches which take into account both the age of the target group, as well as its distance from formal education. The present article presents a teaching approach to English language aimed at adult learners of Second Chance Schools. The teaching methodologies followed are those of Group Learning and Project-based Learning, which help transform the role of the educator, from mentor to coordinator and animator. They also promote initiative, self-action, learning by discovery and personalized learning. Finally, a Portfolio-type questionnaire is used both as a tool for self-evaluation for the learners and as an evaluation tool of the educator’s choices.
