The Professional Burnout of Primary Education Teachers in the Prefecture of Kavala and the headmaster’s attitude towards its mitigation

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the views of Primary Education teachers on the causes of teacherσ’ burnout syndrome as well as the role that the principal plays in its effective coping. The sample of the research consisted of 350 Primary Education teachers. Of these, 89 (27,5%) were male and 235 (72,5%) were female. The results generally show that teachers do not feel overwhelmed by professionalism, are not emotionally exhausted by their profession, but on the contrary they feel creative, that they have achieved their goals, and that they are willing to perform their duty. It is worth noting that for the sense of personal achievement and satisfaction that teachers feel, the headmaster, his/her attitude, and his/her contribution to the effectiveness of educational leadership play an important role.
