Abstract
Given the cultural diversity as a characteristic in today’s society, the modern educational sciences have embraced new approaches based on the principles of intercultural education. In particular, intercultural education aims to develop a sustainable way of life in a multicultural society through the development of understanding and through treating the foreign pupils in the same way as the rest of the students in the classroom. At the same time, all personal experiences of the students are bought to the forefront. Within that framework, this study presents a teaching initiative focused on intercultural education that took place in 2021 in a sixth-grade classroom of a Greek primary school. We decided to use a form of art in the project, namely the music, as well as various innovative teaching methods, including the collaborative teaching and the experiential learning, in order for the educational objectives to be achieved. In the present study, all parameters required in the teaching initiative are defined and briefly analyzed. In other words, we examine aspects of intercultural education, its relationship to music, the collaborative teaching and the experiential learning, followed by the setting-up and the implementation of the specific teaching initiative.
