The role of school leadership in the development of Planning – Planning and Control of educational work. Opinions of the Secondary Education Teachers of the Regional Unit of Drama.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to investigate the views of both the teachers and the directors of the secondary schools of Drama Regional Unity on the role that the school leadership should play in the development and implementation of the basic functions of the Administrationrelated to the Planning – Programming and Controlling of the educational work produced in the School Unit. The research was conducted with the quantitative method. For this purpose a sample of 149 partiapants teachers and principals of different specialities the was used based on an appropriate questionnaire. The statistical analysis was based on the SPSS 24 analysing program. The results showed that teachers are knowledgeable and aware of the importance of planning and programming, recognize the important role of the Teachers’ Association in the development of planning and programming, while realising that the planning process should be rationalized and considered a product of overail participation always taking in to account the existing situation. Moreover, teachers recognize the contribution of Audit–Evaluation, and more specifically, that it helps in monitoring the course of achievement of the unit’s goals, identifying any deviations and redefining them, and in decision making. In addition, they recognize the important role of the principal by creating the appropriate climate for staff to work towards the accomplishment of common goals. Regarding the contribution of planning and programming, it appears that it creates a climate of acceptance and trust, facilitates the control of results, contributes to high performance and improvement, and helps to reduce waste of material and human resources.
