Abstract
This article concerns the design of training programmes for early childhood educators in Municipal Day Care Centers according to their views regarding. It is a case study of the educational needs of thirteen (13) Educators of all specialties (Kindergarten teachers, early years teachers and teachers’ Assistants) who work in the Municipal Day Care Centers of Kalamata. The semi-structured interview was used as a research tool to investigate the needs and the thematic content analysis was used to analyze the data. From the results it emerged that educators are more familiar in attending professional development with physical presence, prefer experiential learning and seek active/participatory learning techniques. They are willing to attend a training program, in or out of working hours, as long as they are interested in the subject. At the same time, they are looking for trainers who have the qualifications and experience to offer them knowledge and skills that are applicable, useful and will find solutions to the problems they face. They also believe that mainly public institutions should take care of their training.
