Abstract
Schools can be considered a place to provide mental health services to children and adolescents. Within the school environment, children showing early symptoms of anxiety could be identified and early intervention and prevention programs could be initiated before symptoms worsen or develop into disorders. This article attempts to highlight the effectiveness of school programs based on cognitive-behavioral therapy for the prevention and treatment of anxiety and the disorders it causes. The implementation of two cognitive-behavioral therapy programs aimed at preventing and treating anxiety disorders in children aged 5 to 12 years in Australian and USA schools are also presented and their assessment tools and their effectiveness are analyzed.
