Design and implementation of an online community for Informatics middle school teachers

Abstract

This paper presents the design and implementation of an online community for Informatics middle school teachers. The community was created by an Informatics Education Consultant, and its members can be the Informatics teachers of the middle schools under her scientific supervision. The design of the online community was based on specific objectives. The online platform e-me was utilized for the implementation of the online community. The paper details the objectives of the online community, the use of e-me tools, and the results of an anonymous questionnaire answered by the new members. The questionnaire aspires to investigate views and attitudes of respondents towards the online community upon their entry into it. Additionally, it presents the initial experience of the online community’s operation regarding the registration and active participation of the members. The results of the questionnaire and the starting run of the online community are encouraging. Finally, the conclusions are summarized.
