Abstract
The institution of parallel support is a structure of inclusive education and its purpose is to strengthen the pedagogical practice and the learning process of children with Special Educational Needs or disability. It is an important educational act of integrating children with disabilities or with special educational needs into a typical school class, with the aim of integrating them, strengthening the way of the pedagogical act and the learning process. The institution of parallel support is the main characteristic of inclusive education (inclusion Education) in terms of the educational treatment of children with Special Educational Needs or even disability according to the ratified declarations of Salamanca (1994) and the UN Convention (Angelidis, 2011) ). The work of parallel support teachers, as a practice, is based on the inclusion of students with Special Educational Needs or with disabilities in the general school (N. 2817/2000, L. 3699/2008), in the context of inclusive education which is governed by the authorities of Differentiated Teaching and Collaborative Teaching or Co-teaching. The classroom teacher and the parallel support teacher are called upon to implement co-teaching or co-teaching (IEP, 2017) with the aim of exploiting the different potential of each child and not marginalizing any student because of his diversity. The Parallel Support teacher does not have the role of a specialist or assistant teacher and is only responsible for children with disabilities or students with special educational needs, he is equal to the class teacher, as both teachers are the teachers of all children of the class. The task of the Parallel Support teacher is to help the student in his gradual independence in the classroom and to work cooperatively in the context of joint teaching as an equal partner of the classroom teacher in co-educational models, returning to the student periodically and/or whenever deemed necessary. Collaboration at the level of co-planning, co-teaching and co-assessment for all students is a necessity and an obligation in an inclusive school that cares and worries for all children. It is proposed to train general and special education teachers in integration policy, co-education, differentiated teaching and cooperative learning.
