Starting from the Zero

Abstract

 

In this study we summarized the history of invention of a number, zero, whose conception centuries ago, while solved practical problems, particularly in science mathematics and everyday activities of humans, would cause uncertainties, concerns and differences of opinion on religious level and in communication between us. More specifically, we are talking about the great significance of the “existence” of zero for the evolution of science, technology, the arts, the delimitation of the time and, generally, for human civilization. We refer to the linguistic problems relating to zero, i.e. we identify what are the most frequent language mistakes we make when we use the concept of zero, as well as linguistic expressions that include this number and then we try to heal them. The multifaceted approach of zero is a proposal for a multidisciplinary approach in school by teachers of different specialties.
