Transforming Learning – The Aesthetic Experience of Art in Education

Abstract

Transforming learning is a type of learning whose main aim is to transform the reference frameworks of learners so that they become more inclusive, open, stochastic and emotionally ready for change. The use of artworks with aesthetic value as primers for the strengthening of critical thinking can strengthen the educational process. This paper attempts to present the method – technical exploitation of artworks with two educational activities to high school students. The use of the method of Aesthetic Experience of Art in Education was realized in six (6) stages and the students’ groups developed their critical thinking, improved and revised their initial view, depicted various emotional situations, confronted prejudices and reassessed various stereotypes documenting the views with arguments making the method effective. Transforming learning through the aesthetic experience of art seems to have scope beyond adults where it was originally applied to students of formal education.
