Abstract
The educational reality tends to be digitally transformed in recent years due to continuous technological development. Online teaching and living, combined with the interactive whiteboard require continuous search, planning, potential and pilot application of new teaching methods that empower and promote the learning process. This article deals with the utilization of an innovative pedagogical tool in second/foreign language teaching (L2/FL), digital educational escape rooms (DEERs). However, their purely digitized form and application in L2/FL is at an early stage in the international bibliography and consequently lacks theoretical background. In this context, the theoretical identification and documentation of DEERs is attempted based on the existing literature. In this light, their educational contribution to L2/FL is mapped with a focus on adult language learners based on appropriate teaching practices in language learning. Then, online resources and electronic tools for designing DEERs in an electronic environment are presented, combined with examples of primary DEERs material from the authors of this article..
