Abstract
In modern times, working adults will be called many times to educate themselves and update their knowledge and skills. Therefore, there is a great need for qualitative and holistic training. Internet and new technologies can contribute in order to meet these educational needs successfully. Nowadays, lots of distance learning programs are conducted in various forms. The evaluation of the training programs could lead to their qualitative upgrade and to improve also their effectiveness. In the present study, an evaluation of the educational program “Learning and Teaching Python Programming Language, In and Out of School” (PY4HS) is carried out. The implementing entity of the program is the University of Crete. The program is addressed primarily to IT teachers who teach at Primary or Secondary Education and is supported through Google’s Computer Science for High School program. The study followed both the quantitative and qualitative approach. In the quantitative part of the study eighty trainees were participated (N = 80) and for the collection of the qualitative data five people were interviewed (three trainers and two trainees). The results of the study are capturing many positive views from the majority of the participants. The basic principles of the adult education were followed by designers and trainers, in order to meet program’s objectives to a large extent. The only element that concerned many trainees was the extent of the program’s duration.
