Abstract
The purpose of our study is to investigate the procedures and ways in which the policy for student camps – children’s outings in our country from 1911 to 1953 was set up, organized and practiced. To approach the subject, we used the method of historical research. The children’s countryside was considered a new type of school in the countryside during the holidays, a convenient place of practical application of the principles of the new education and the working school. Activities taking place in children’s outings were: reading, swimming, gymnastics, games, walking and staying in the woods. The necessity of childhood excursions also includes their social dimension by ensuring the health of the most deprived students, the students whose families (mainly the urban centers) with their meager means were not able to defend themselves. The development of childhood excursions in Greece can be divided into three periods: The first is established Medical-Social and extends from 1911 to 1928. The second is characterized Ethical-Social (1929-1945), and the third is Healthy – Social (from 1946 to 1953).
