Abstract
Vocational Education and Training has for many years been the second choice in education systems worldwide. But the majority of European countries have designed and implemented apprenticeship programs with a combination of theoretical and practical training to deal with demographic and socio-economic changes that exacerbate the big problem of young people for countries that are unemployed. In this light, in Greece in recent years, apprenticeship programs have been implemented in the post-secondary cycle of Vocational High Schools with the specialty of Nursing Assistant belonging to those with high demand among those offered. The aim of this research based on a systematic bibliographic review of domestic and international literature was the evaluation of the institution “Post-Secondary Year – Apprenticeship” in Western Greece, through the study of those involved as a teacher and instructor/ supervisor of the workplace. This substantiates the problems identified and the benefits that are recorded both for apprentices, teachers, employers, and for schools in particular, but also the local or national community and economy in general. The role of teachers/ supervisors emerges as particularly important, while the proposals for the improvement of the institution that are formulated are a valuable feedback tool regarding the viability of the institution.
