The use of participatory educational techniques in teaching Greek traditional dances to adults

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate the degree to which the dance teachers of Greek traditional dance utilize participatory educational techniques in their teaching. At a methodological level, sample research was utilized using the questionnaire as a data collection tool. The research sample consists of 100 dance teachers. The participants of the sample are active in the teaching of Greek Traditional Dances (G.T.D.) mainly because they want to contribute to their country, introducing the participants to the Greek dance tradition. They are quite knowledgeable about G.T.D. and they value participatory educational techniques positively, as they consider that their utilization contributes significantly to the active participation of the trainees, to the strengthening of the interaction between the trainer and the trainees and to the improvement of the dance performance of the trainees. They prepare the teaching of G.T.D., but without always including participative educational techniques in their planning. Finally, they know several participatory educational techniques. They state that they use them in practice and mainly practice and discussion.
