The teaching of the Greek language as a second language in Albania

Abstract

Greek language is the second language in use in Albania, after the mother tongue, Albanian. This is due to two main factors. Firstly, the existence of the National Greek Minority (EEM) in Albania, which lives in its ancestral homes in the southern part of the country, whose members have Greek as their mother tongue and basic education is provided in it. Secondly, Greek is the language of the neighboring country, Greece, with which the Albanian people maintain various kinds of relations and contacts. It is acquired either naturally, through direct contact with Greek-speaking people, it is learned systematically in various educational institutions or tutoring schools in the country. In the context of the presentation, we will see the spread of the Greek language in Albania. Educational institutions where Greek is taught as a second or foreign language. The content of the teaching, the teachers who teach Greek as well as the textbooks used in each case.
