The social context of learning in adult online education

Abstract

 

The purpose of this study is to explore the social context of learning in online learning. For this reason, the concept of social presence in online adult learning, the importance of interaction and the role of creative learning in the signification of the social presence are studied. Also the basic elements of social network analysis by graph theory are demonstrated. Data from the analysis of the social presence of two social networks are developed in the context of implementation of the online project “building the school of the future” and relative conclusions are derived. From the data analysis it is clear that in order to be developed an online learning environment, a combination of interactions is required, by which a common target is accomplished where learning occurs as a result of the interaction, the activation and the initiatives which are developed.
