Proposal for adoption of strategic planning in the Greek educational system at school level – SWOT Analysis of the environment of educational institutions

Abstract

 

Strategic planning is a practice that can increase the ability of organizations applying it to respond effectively to changes in the constantly changing environment and the benefits of its application can be utilized in the field of education as well. In the case of the Greek educational system the adoption of strategic planning at the school level is recommended, in spite of the centralization of the system which is labeled as weakness in the SWOT analysis where the environment in which a school unit will be required to implement the strategic planning is examined and the results of which should be considered in a longterm scope. The strategic planning of the school units is therefore necessary to take into account the particular context of each school along with the planning of the Ministry of Education, for the latter to be successful. Such practice can also work positively towards the autonomy of the school unit, which is a requirement for the Greek educational system.
