Abstract
The training of Education Executives aiming at the imrpovement of our country’s educational system is a strategic component of for its quality. However, compared to other countries, their training lags significantly and many more steps have to be taken. The purpose of this article is to highlight the necessity to form an organized framework for education executives training and to present the possibilities of utilizing other countries’ good practices as well as the contribution of the National Centre of Public Administration and Local Government (E.K.D.D.A.), the official training body in public administration. The article begins with a bibliographic overview of the increased training needs of the education executives nowadays followed by a review of good practices applied in various countries around the world, the description of the existing institutional framework for their training in Greece and the specialized training programs offered by EKDDA, during the last decade, in the field of Education Administration. The necessity of direct cooperation between the Ministry of Education and EKDDA is emphasized and the article concludes with a proposal for the institutionalization of an integrated training framework for education executives aiming at optimizing their administrative work and consequently the total operation of the educational system.
